Persian Klim

HISTORY OF KILIM RUGS

The origins of the Iranian gilim rug can be traced back to the nomadic
tribes of the former Persian Empire. These nomadic peoples originally
used gilims as practical items such as blankets, saddlebags, and floor
coverings. While the exact origins of carpet weaving are debated, it is
widely believed that the early carpets, dating back several centuries
BC, shared many similarities with today’s gilims. The knotting
techniques used in carpet weaving likely evolved from simpler weaving
methods.
Today, the most renowned gilim weavers are the nomadic Qashqai
tribes of southern Iran. Using only natural sheep wool and vegetable
dyes, these skilled artisans create intricate and unique designs, often
based on ancient tribal patterns. Each gilim is a one-of-a-kind work of
art, handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail.
Our Team is proud to carry on the Qashqai tradition by producing
authentic hand-knotted kilims. Through reviving this ancient art and
sharing it globally, we aim to preserve Iran’s cultural heritage and
showcase its beauty. Each piece reflects the skill and dedication of the
artisans, ensuring this timeless craft continues for future generations.
